Art database

I am working with a client who has an extensive art collection that needs to be catalogued. I am looking for a art database that is web accesible. So far gallery 3 is all that comes up in my search. Any comments on this product or others would be great.

Is this what you are talking about? www.gallery3.net/

Depends on what your client's needs are and how you want things organized.

yep that is the one, but my concern is that it won´t be hardy enogh for a 20,000 plus collection. I also need it to be accesible all over the world by mulitiple users. If you got some info it would better than being int he dark.

You should probably build your own website for hosting the gallery. That may be a bigger project than you care to take on.

ill second that. But even with something out of the box youre going to have to fine tune to keep performance at a good level if this thing is going to get as much traffic as you make it sound like :-)

Danke, I was comming to that conclusion. The problem is finding a engineer that has a clue on how the art business works. This is a longterm project that my client thinks is a short term one. Ah the wonders of freelance work.!

while someone with that experience is desireable it needent be necessary. You jsut need to be able to provide an ouline of the process and the variables involved in whatever youre modeling the system on. Ther must be processes, tasks, and varibales that are implemented in some way now (i would assume on paper and what not as opposed to an electronic system). All you have to do is be able to give a through description of those things and the developer can then model those in the digital world.

don't know if anyone is still interested in this topic.

i've developed free-standing art collection databases for several art advisors, and am currently developing a web-based system that you might be interested in.
