i cross posted on another forum, hoping to figure this out to do by myself or hire someone to do it..please respond to akaisilksinfo@yahoo.com
aloha
i'm going to use victorias secret link to show what i'm asking:
www2.victoriassecret.com/comme...splay/
if you roll over the color swatches on the side, it will enlarge the swatch so you can see a larger image of it
i dont remember what site i saw it on but it was a fashion site and the web designer did something similar...he used one model in the same pose (i think it was the same exact image) and the color swatches were arranged on the side..when you clicked on each color swatch, it would change the model's clothes...so by clicking the swatch you could see the same dress in red, blue, pink etc.
how oh how is this done? I'm willing to hire someone to do it unless its something i can be tied to a chair to complete? it would help immensely with building an online catalog..show one pic of rectangle veil avail in these colors, then one pic of half circle veil, one circle skirt, one poncho, one nightie etc

Re: how to do this?
Wed, August 30, 2006 - 4:13 PMif you've got access to dreamweaver it's fairly simple.
Set your page out with your desired layout, so model image and swatches. Then for each swatch place an invisible layer containing the image of her in that swatch colour over the original image. Through behaviours make each swatch "reveal" the layer. This can be through rollover or clicking, whichever you think best.
Make sure the layers line up perfectly (more fiddlily the older your version of dreamweaver is) and the images in each layer is the exact same size as the original one.
If you haven't got Dreamweaver then it gets harder. -

Wed, August 30, 2006 - 4:41 PMDont use layers for that.. its waste. Just use an onclick image swap to switch the image. -

Re: how to do this?
Wed, August 30, 2006 - 4:42 PMand actually... id stay away from most of the dreamweaver drop in tools... grab a free script to do it or write it yourself from scratch... its actually pretty simple. -

Pixel, I don't get it. If I can get Dreamweaver to give me this effect in a couple of clicks, why would I waste hours learning to multiplex the action of revealing an image (layer or otherwise) because all of the examples are for ONE per page, and still have to deal with cross-compatibility issues. I don't wanna be a javascript guru just to get some pop-ups to work on the page... -

Re: how to do this?
Wed, August 30, 2006 - 9:43 PMYou wouldnt have to learn JS... Youd jsut need to find a script that lets you modify a single array of images or what have you of which there are numerous floating around out there.
Or if you knwo some JS (which she dosent) you could jsut use some naming conventions for images in realtion to the porduct and page so you never have to modify anything - you could jsut make it "construct" the file name by itself.
Alot of DW's built in utilites insert the script in the page itself and do not work properly externally (although there are nmerous extensions that are compatible with external scripts or that successfuly rewrite DW's js to an external sheet making the proper modifications - some of em free some of em not) but i would think it much easier to modify an array in one or two places than to open up 20 differnt pages and point and click. Maybe thats just me. But nayhow i was jsut recommending that she go that route not that it was "proper" or a necessity... But that she should use the image swap extension as opposed to hide/show layer if shes switching clothing styling on the "model" as she mentioned... now if shes going to do the whole crop of the fabric thing exactly like on the VS page then yeah hide/show layer is the way to go... Ofcourse if she does that she maybe screwed if shes centering the page because if i remeber correctly DW uses absolute positiong for that and dosent cal the distance and position on the fly but rather statically when you make the effect... so if something shifts it may not come out as planned... at least thats the way i rember it the last time i used (a version back and a couple years ago).

Re: how to do this?
Wed, September 6, 2006 - 11:56 PMwhy not try building the thing in Fireworks? You don't have to know javascript (rudimentary ok) and that's easy then to import into dreamweaver. Fireworks does that type of thing quite well....Google tutorials or visit my professor at:
